One of the most famous movie icons is without doubt the bold and daring King Kong. This giant gorilla first appeared in film in 1933 and has since inspired countless remakes, sequels, cartoons, novels and video games.
Burton’s take on this icon departs from the fearful monster or tragic anti-hero and presents a lighter more familiar version, aptly titled “Monkey Business”.
As a child, Burton often recalls watching early cartoons on TV of playful and mischievous monkeys and sought to bring some of that jovial spirit to this new creation.
Monkey Business presents to us a gorilla that is playful and fun engaged in climbing the Empire State Building. The glimmer in his eyes and the smile on his lips are reminiscent of a naughty child, thus evoking a smile to all who view this new creation!
Monkey Business by Burton Morris Unframed
Created in 2015, on Somerset Satin 410 gsm paper, these silk screen prints were individually hand-made, each only being a small edition consisting of 80 prints.
Diamond dust was used on these new prints in order to set them apart from previous editions. Morris chose three strong and easily recognizable images, two of which exemplify Americana Pop art today.
Coriander Studio was selected and given the task of creating these three important new editions being one of the most established and prestigious printers for artists, publishers and museums alike of edition prints in Europe.
The welcoming Lady Liberty, the migrating Monarch butterfly and the jovial gorilla are all pieces that are intended to open a fresh new chapter in the highly popular Pop art movement
